I’ve been in print/art/design for a long time. I’ve had many firsts. Each one gives a little thrill. The first album cover, the first van wrap you see drive past, the first 40 foot building wrap (on a cinema). They don’t come along often and I count myself blessed in each of my opportunities.
One of the ‘firsts’ I’ve not gotten to break into is cartoons/comics. I’ve doodled and drawn, done the 24hour world comic day, done the boards.ie comic creator challenge.. but comercially, never gotten to do it. Tried many times mind you. But clients have always gone for the graphics/photos options.
Today I get to be a commercial cartoonist. I’m buzzing like a kid after their first candy floss 🙂

Positive Posters 2010: A Glass Half Full
published Jul 14, 2010
ends Sep 10, 2010
Positive Posters, a bunch of young Melbournians are on a mission to show that graphic design can help people, is asking graphic designers all over the world to submit a positive design in response to the 2010 theme “a glass half full.”
“We started the competition last year with no expectations,” said Nick Hallam, founder of the competition.
“But ended up with 339 entries, from 53 countries. The third most amount of entries from Iran. We are still trying to figure that one out!”
Positive Posters will print 4000 copies of the winning design and paste it around Melbourne.
Deadline for submissions is September 10, 2010.
It’s been an intense and rather filled month. Every week has had a ‘stop’. Some fuller than others. Some less expected and prepared for.
Some things you can’t see coming.
‘you’ll be missed’
She walked a tight rope in that hour, but she couldn’t even see it
And strayed too far
And those she left by her misadventure
Fill with loss
And the sting of anger
There are things that may seem clever,
But you may forget
Some choices mean forever
Even when they aren’t meant
